Helen Mason is a landscape artist who is drawn to recording her memories and experiences on canvas. She has come across the word ‘inscapes,’ which she feels very well describes what she paints.

Living in a coastal community, much of her time is spent in and around the sea. She is hugely influenced by this environment and paints how she feels and who she is at that moment in time, in that place. Her art is a reflection of herself and what is around her. She likes to paint in a slightly abstracted or ‘pared back’ way while still holding on to a sense of place.

Helen’s preference is to use mostly acrylics made from natural pigments and plants. She starts a painting with no plan or objective, letting herself be led by where the art takes her. However, she does see, when looking back over her work, that almost every painting includes water in some form or at least the sense of it!
